Microgrids and Community Energy Systems

in Australia

Microgrids and community energy systems represent a transformative approach to local energy generation and consumption, aiming to enhance resilience, sustainability, and energy independence. Syncline Energy is supporting efforts across Australia to deliver their benefits. Our projects listed below use in-house software and also licence PV Syst for solar design and HomerPro for microgrids.

Kings Canyon Solar/Diesel Microgrid

The challenge: Expensive and intermittent power supply holding back Delaware North’s business plans for Kings Canyon, a remote resort in the Australia’s Northern Territory.

Midfield Geothermal System

The challenge: High cost of water and energy for one of Australia’s largest export abattoirs.

What we did: Syncline designed and constructed a geothermal water supply system including RO Plant for Midfield’s main processing facility in Warrnambool. This required drilling a 900m bore into the deep Dilwyn Aquifer formation and securing water licenses and all necessary permits.  The Project was supported by the Government of Victoria through a grant to enhance sustainability in new investment.

The result: Pay-back of less that 2 years.

Geothermal System for the Deep Blue Resort & Conference Centre

The challenge: Design and build a geothermal heating system for a Spa Resort

What we did: Designed and developed a deep aquifer supply of hot water for use in swimming pool and room heating. Integrated with Spa operations.

The result: An Iconic Spa Resort operating along Victoria’s Great Ocean Road.

Kings Canyon Solar/Diesel Microgrid

The challenge: Expensive and intermittent power supply holding back Delaware North’s business plans for Kings Canyon, a remote resort in the Australia’s Northern Territory.

What we did: Engineered and constructed a 100kW roof-top Solar PV system. This was integrated with two Syncline designed and fabricated containerised diesel units; specially fabricated to ensure they met the strict low noise requirements for a luxury desert resort. The system was delivered safely, on-time and on-budget despite the remote location and an ambitious schedule to avoid disruption during the peak tourist season.

The result: Pay-back of less that 2 years. Delaware North has expanded its operations at Kings Canyon

Syncline developed and fabricated 2 x 220kW containerised diesel units. These needed to operate alongside a Solar PV System and work within the site’s existing micro-grid. The units were designed with great attention to reducing noise to ensure they did not disturb the quiet ambience of this high-end desert resort.

King’s Canyon Solar/Diesel Hybrid. As well as design and construction, Syncline managed all procurement and logistics to Kings Canyon. Key to success was Consolidating Shipments and developing a very detailed bill-of-materials as any missing components would cause weeks delay due to the remote location.
